It is quite common for brides to select their wedding flowers to match the color of their dresses, but some brides have been known to choose their blooms according to symbolism. Below, you will find some of the most popular flowers for weddings, as well as their meanings:

Calla Lily

With a graceful outlook, calla lilies are shaped like trumpets with light green stems. The blooms are white and green with a miniature variety that supplies shades of orange, pink, yellow, purple, and red. Calla lilies are great for bouquets, boutonnieres, and centerpieces. The miniature variety is available year-round, while the large white calla lily is best between October and May. Calla lilies stand for glorious beauty.

Carnation

With signature ruffles, the spicy scent of a carnation creates a great wedding flower for bouquets, boutonnieres and other arrangements. The carnation comes in all colors except for blue, which are in season on a year-round basis – representing love and devotion.

Mums

A wide range of shapes, sizes, and colors are associated with the mum, which come small as a button to a bit larger than a softball. Many brides who set a wedding date for the autumn season enjoy the range of colors with this bloom, which adds a lovely presentation to bouquets and arrangements. Available on a year-round basis, mums stand for truth, abundance, and wealth.

Gardenia

On a year-round basis, the gardenia represents grace, as it is often used in bouquets and corsages. The flower also presents elegance when used for garlands and topiary trees. The round, white flower is a must for classic weddings, where quite a sweet scent is emitted.

Gerbera Daisy

Gerbera resembles a daisy with two different sizes: standard and miniature. A wealth of shades is included, such as orange, peach, pink, red, yellow, and white. The Gerbera daisy is used in bouquets and other arrangements. This type of daisy stands for beauty.

Lily

The star-shaped flower known as the lily offers two to five blossoms per stem. With a variety of selections, they range in size from four to eight inches in diameter. Some of the colors to consider include yellow, orange, white, and pink. The lily is most often used in bouquets and arrangements. This year-round bloom stands for truth, honor, and majesty.

Lily of the Valley

With small blossoms in the shape of a bell, the lily of the valley offers a classic and conventional flower selection for a wedding. The gentle fragrance often hits the air as a bride takes her walk down the aisle. It is a bloom meant to represent happiness. In bouquets and other arrangements, the flower offers shades of white and a blush pink. In May, the flower becomes in-season, while year-round, it is still available, but quite expensive.
